Take a cue from Claudia Schiffer, for example, who was spotted earlier this morning walking around her Notting Hill neighborhood in a flattering pair of flared jeans. While her crewneck sweater and button-down are both very put together, it was pairing those pieces with a dark-wash formfitting pair of denim that gave her outfit its polished look. Now imagine this same ensemble worn with a lighter, baggier pair of jeans. Not so alluring anymore, is it?
So, if you’re in the market for denim that can easily be dressed up or down, opt for a super-dark pair that fits snug to the body. Achieving sophisticated outfits time after time doesn’t have to be brain surgery–simply treat your dark jeans as you would a pair of black pants, rocking them with everything from collared shirts and feminine blouses to structured blazers and pretty tweed jackets.
